According to AP news the Federal Communications Commission has shut down an Austin’s pirate radio station that served as the flagship outlet for conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The Austin American-Statesman reports the FCC also has fined the station’s operators $15,000 — a fine the FCC says in a lawsuit the operators are refusing to pay.
The radio station, called Liberty Radio, stopped trasmitting on air in December, 2017 but continues streaming online. Alex Jones‘ Twitter account was shut down few days ago and put in “read-only mode” preventing him from tweeting, liking or retweeting, but not removing his tweets or personal account from the social network.
Infowars Twitter account was suspended the day after Alex Jones’ one. A Twitter spokesperson said the action was taken for tweets containing a video that was in violation of the company’s rules on abusive behaviour and inciting violence. Twitter instructed Jones to delete the tweets, which he has done.
As The Guardian informs Facebook, YouTube, Spotify and Apple banned Jones’s accounts from their various services on 6th August following the media backlash. Jones’s apps still remain available via Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play store.
In February 2018, Jones was accused by two former employees of antisemitism, anti-black racism and sexual harassment of males and females. Jones denied the allegations.
